OUR WORK

WSM AND PROJECTS

Poverty is caused by the inequalities in the world. When you take action, you unleash waves of change that continue to grow for generations to come.

World Service of Mercy aims at help improving the living standards of people of different communities and fighting against climate change. This includes running projects for shelter, food and relief assistance for the people in need. And nature and Build a Climate Resilient Future

Climate change is a proven fact.

Global warming has caused serious changes to the planet, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, deforestation, disappearance of species... But, as individuals we can slow down global warming by implementing small more sustainable actions within our community.

In WSM, we share our emission reduction experiences with neighbours, relatives, children and friends. Spread the word! Communicating about it is the best way to raise awareness and encourage actual climate action.

WSM strategie

Education Program

WSM aims at making a sustained and effective change by working from the ground up reaching individual students and teachers and making a difference in the classroom.

We focus on science and technology education and of climate change and explain the role of science and technology in health, the environment, and sustainable development.

As WSM, we say it is possible and necessary to take action to tackle climate change. Everyone can start it by implementing some of the tips below. Small changes in our daily lives make a difference and contribute to reduce greenhouse gases emissions released in the atmosphere. Many of them can also benefit your wallet by reducing costs!

Home for the Elderlyion

Africa is a continent where elder people are the most vulnerable, especially in conflict areas; we in World Service of Mercy have developed a program of taking care of the elderly group of people in zones affected by different conflicts such as war, dryness, epidemies etc...

The number of needy aged people has grown and requires combined efforts from stakeholders and community development partners to assist this vulnerable group. As a result, construction of dormitories is in pipeline to cater to about 80 aged people and provide them with food, clothing and medical care

Many elderly people are unemployed thus cannot afford the most basic needs and therefore, suffer in silence. Majority of them stay in urban slums where lack of basic needs and mostly begging for food, in order to survive.

By this, WSM in Beni/DRCongo opted a new program of feeding and clothing elders.

WSM has provided to build a center for elderly people, others mission aims at improving their living standards of different communities, including running projects for shelter, food and medical care

WSM believes offering social services to the vulnerable/ underprivileged, these are the deaf, blind, orphans, disable people and the elderly it’s a step in human living right. This also includes victims of fire outbreaks, conflict and other unexpected disasters.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.    page

We believe that every person who comes into this world has great potential.

What sets each of us apart is the opportunities that we can access and the barriers that we face.

Some of us are held back by poverty, where generation after generation fights to earn a living and provide for our families. Some of us are held back by what society expects from our race or our gender. Still others are held back by our vulnerability to crisis – whether it’s a natural disaster, an environment broken by climate change or the imminent danger of conflict.

When we work together, we can dissolve these inequalities

Whether you live in Europe, America, Canada, Ethiopia, and Haiti or in The Democratic Republic Of Congo, our humanity is the same. A mother living in poverty wants better life for her daughter as the mother who lives next door to you. And when we come together – unified in passion, dedication and commitment, we shall be able to dissolve inequalities.

Toilet Project in Kinshasa - Democratic Republic of Congo in 2017

Over seventy percent of the city's population is poor and as a result of the large population, most of them live in the informal settlements-slums without adequate sanitation. World Service of Mercy was concerned with the lack of public toilets in Kinshasa city. WSM found out that the city is currently served by insufficient number of public toilets which are in bad condition that cannot even serve five percent of Kinshasa 's population.

Therefore, WSM has embarked in a project to improved public amenities such as toilets to reduce the risk in contacting diseases such as typhoid, dysentery and cholera, which are now on the increase

The objective of the project is to construct and rehabilitate the Public Toilets to benefit the residents of Kinshasa City.

Although the city has a population of over 6 million, we are in the process of sourcing funds to build enough toilets to serve the entire population

It is in recognition of this need that the World Service of Mercy, with the D. R. Congo government and other key International organizations (both government and non-governmental) have proposed to get involved in building toilets.

Our plans spell out activities to be carried out during the implementation and long-term sustainability of the project. Closely related to this is development of a decision making process that is transparent at all levels in planning, budgeting and overall project implementation. The promotion of good sanitation and waste management practices, to be piloted in Kinshasa will have impact on improved hygiene, hence good health and reduced medication costs. Emergency Relief Intervention

This is where World Service of Mercy (WSM) will be conducting quick response services i.e. various aspects of relief. This includes relief to drought stricken areas, floods, conflict areas, fire outbreaks.

One of the areas WSM will be involved in is drought cycle management operations through Preparedness, Emergency and Recovery phases.

Floods on the other hand cannot be prevented since it is a natural disaster. One would find it hard to prepare for floods, but when it comes to emergency and recovery services, WSM will be there to offer support.

In cases of fire outbreaks especially in slum areas, we are to provide food, blankets, clothes, medicine and be involved in recovery exercise such as providing building materials to help the victims get back on their feet.

Food, blankets, medicine, clothing and building materials are also provided to victims from conflict areas.

This is to meet the most urgent needs of crisis-affected populations in poor countries with the aim of saving lives and preventing further escalation of suffering during the initial stages of a humanitarian crisis.

Mr Suleiman Shakombo (second left), the minister of State for National Heritage, recieves maize flour to be distributed to famine stricken areas of Kenya during his tour of the NGO co-ordination board. Mr. Robert Nzapa, WSM Chairman shakes hands with him.

Strategies employed by WSM in its emergency humanitarian response include:

Facilitation/distribution of food and critical non-food items (shelter, blankets, cooking utensils, etc.)

Psychosocial counseling for women and child victims of trauma or rape and physical protection of those at risk

  • Facilitation/provision of emergency water to neighbouring communities.
  • Facilitation/provision of emergency health ( including women reproductive health )
  • Training on peace education and conflict resolution
  • Training on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives
